PITTSBURG, Kan. –
Tamaya Tutson was a part of two school records this weekend, leading the Hillcats in some strong performances for the Track & Field program at the 4
th Annual Indoor Gorilla Classic.
Tutson, along with fellow freshman teammate
Tizhane Brooks, became the first Hillcats to break the 60-second barrier in the 400-meter event at Rogers State. Tutson staked claim to the record with a 58.39, while Brooks finished with a 59.71.
Tutson and Brooks also teamed up with
Audrianna Morgan and
Jaylen Hogue to set another school record in the 4x400-meter relay. The group earned broke their own record set in December, running a 3:54.12, to beat the previous record time by .12 seconds.
Katelyn Callender ran the second fastest freshman time and broke her personal best in the 60-meter hurdles with a 9.76.
Callender also teamed up with
Katelyn Alexander,
Tayler Lee and
Ellen Thomas to run a 13:34.13 in the Distance Medley Relay.
Alexander led the way for the Hillcats in the 800-meter run, finishing with a 2:25.05. Lee ran a 2:34.09 in the event.
Thomas also ran in the 3000-meter run, finishing with a 11:47.32.
Kayla Pruitt and
Special Hawkins both ran in sprint events for the Hillcats. Pruitt ran .04 seconds off of a personal best with an 8.01. Hawkins ran an 8.18.
In the 200-meter race, Pruitt again led the way with a 26.453. Hawkins finished with a 28.88.
Noel Lawver just missed a personal best in the mile by .02 seconds, running a 5:56.27.
Avery Buck finished with a 6:00.6.
Olivia Couch had the only field events for the Hillcats, jumping a distance of 5.10 meters in the long jump.
Rogers State will be back in action on Friday, traveling to the Arkansas Qualifier in the final tune-up before the Great American Conference Championships.
