Women's Golf Finishes Second At St. Edward's Women's Invitational

AUSTIN, Texas – The Rogers State Women's Golf program held their place and finished in a tie for 2nd at the St. Edward's Invitational on Tuesday.
 
Battling a rainy and windy day at the Onion Creek Club, the Hillcats shot a 317 on day two to finish with a two-round total of 620, tying Southwestern Oklahoma State for second overall.
 
Jess Whiting led the way for the Hillcats on day two, matching her opening round 77 with another 77 on Tuesday. Whitting finished at +14 for the tournament and her 154 total was tied for ninth best.
 
Mariana Flores and Jessica Green, who were both tied for fourth with scores of 73 after round one, struggled on day two. Flores shot an 82, while Green finished with an 83.
 
Flores finished in a tie for 15th with a 155 for the tournament, while Green finished in a tie for 17th with a 156.
 
Sydney Murray, who was fourth best for the Hillcats on day one, improved by two strokes, following up her 80 on Monday with a 78 today. Murray's 158 saw her jump seven places, finishing in a tie for 22nd.
 
Whitting, Green, Flores and Murray all finished in the top third of the 75-golfer field. Whitting, Flores and Murray all finished with three birdies for the tournament, tied for 10th best. Green was tied for fourth best with 23 pars in the event.
 
Raquel Flores saw the biggest improvement for the Hillcats from the first round to the second round, jumping 15 places as she dropped seven strokes off of her opening day score. Flores finished third on the day for the Hillcats shooting an 80 for a two-day total of 167.
 
Arkansas Tech picked up the team win, finishing with rounds of 301 and 302 for a 603 total. Regina Gonzalez, of St. Mary's, was the overall medalist, shooting rounds of 71 and 73 for a +4 total of 144.

The Hillcats' second-place finish is their best of the season and their best finish overall since April 2017.
 
Rogers State will return to action next Monday and Tuesday, traveling to Hilton Head, South Carolina for the Battle of Hilton Head Island. The event will take place at the Robert Trent Jones Course at Palmetto Dunes Oceanfront Resort.
