OWASSO, Okla. –
Jessica Green is tied for the lead and the Hillcats sit two-shot back after day one of the Fourth Annual Hillcat Classic at the Bailey Ranch Golf Club.
Green finished round one with a two-over-par round of 74 to lead the way in the field of 59 on Monday. Green had three birdies, including back-to-back birdies on 15 and 16 to climb the ranks late in round one and share the clubhouse lead with 18 holes to play.
Teammate
Raquel Flores is just one shot behind Green and sits alone in third place. Flores opened up the day with four consecutive pars. She finished with strong as well, going one under over the final five holes on the par-72 course.
The Hillcats sit in third as a team, shooting a round of 310. Rogers State sits at +22, two shots behind Newman University, who is +2- after one round. Oklahoma Christian sits in second at +21.
Rogers State finished with all five golfers inside the top 20 after round one.
Sydney Murray was third for the Hillcats after a +8 round of 80 on the 5890-yard course. Murray, who sits in a tie for 14
th, struggled a little early with a triple bogey on her opening hole, but Murray closed the day strong with seven-straight pars.
Mariana Flores and
Marybeth Bellnap tied for fourth in scoring for Rogers State, as both shot rounds of +9 on the opening day to sit in a three-way tie for 16
th.
After going +7 over the first six holes, Flores settled nicely in the afternoon, completing the final 12 holes at 2-over. Bellnap finished her first competitive round of 2019 with 10 pars and stayed in the top 20 all day.
Rogers State and the rest of the 12-team field will return to action tomorrow morning with a shotgun start set for 9 a.m.
