PUEBLO, Colo. – The Rogers State Women's Golf team sits in the middle of the pack after day one of the El Cheapo Classic hosted by Colorado State University-Pueblo at the Walking Stick Golf Course.
The Hillcats finished round one with a team score of 306 to sit in a three-way tie for seventh place in a 16-team field. Rogers State finished the round at +18, 14 shots back from leaders St. Mary's.
Jessica Green and
Raquel Flores led the way for the Hillcats in round one, as both shot +3 rounds of 75 on the 6,000-yard course to sit in a tie for 13
th overall. Green picked up a pair of birdies in her round with 11 pars. Flores led the Hillcats with three birdies on the afternoon and added 10 pars.
Mariana Flores and
Marybeth Bellnap rounded out the scoring for the Hillcats in round one, as both players shot +6 rounds of 78 to sit in a tie for 34
th in the 80-golfer field. Flores started strong, contending for the early lead with two birdies in the first three holes, but would double bogey on her fifth hole and would not shoot under par for the rest of the round.
Bellnap struggled early in her second tournament for the Hillcats, but closed out the round strong, recording consecutive birdies late in her round to pull two shots back and move up the leaderboard.
Sydney Murray finished up the day for the Hillcats, shooting an 85 in round one to sit in a tie for 66
th. Murray started off with consecutive pars and closed out her round the same way, but finished with seven total for her round.
The Hillcats will return to action on Monday to close out the tournament. Rogers State is set to tee off from holes 5 to 9 at 9:30 a.m. in a shotgun start.
