Hillcats Down Harding 2-1 On The Road

SEARCY, Ark. – Rogers State men's soccer (6-3-1, 2-2 GAC/MIAA) took down Harding (1-5-1, 1-3-1 GAC/MIAA) in a 2-1 decision on Thursday.

Two Hillcats found the back of the net in the win. Both Jaime Ponce and Jaxon Pitt connected on the two goals to give RSU the victory. Declan Viljoen continued his solid play in goal with three saves and only allowing the lone Bison goal.

The Hillcats were dominant on both fronts in the opening half as they outshot HU 11-2. The RSU offense broke through late in the period as Ponce buried a header for the match's first goal off a corner kick from Zach Donohue in the 35th minute. Eight minutes later, Jaxon Pitt found pay dirt on a cross from D'Waylan McIntosh in the 43rd minute to give the Hillcats the 2-0 lead going into the intermission.

In the second half, things devolved into a defensive stalemate as both sides were only able to get off five shots apiece. Unfortunately, the Bison began to make a little noise in the 63rd minute as Stefano Silva fired a shot in from 40 yards out to trim the lead to 2-1. However, Viljoen and the defense steadied RSU as they held on for the 2-1 victory.

The Hillcats will be back in action on Saturday, Oct. 9 as they stay on the road with a trip to Arkadelphia, Ark. for matchup against Ouachita Baptist. Kickoff is slated for 3 p.m.
