Ponce and Hernandez Named CoSIDA Academic All-District

GREENWOOD, Ind. – Jaime Ponce and Sebastian Hernandez have been named College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) Academic All-District® for men's soccer, the organization announced on Thursday.
 
Ponce and Hernandez were among 10 student-athletes from District 7 that received the honor. District 7 is made up of schools from the MIAA, Great American Conference and Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference. Academic All-District® honorees advance to the CoSIDA Academic All-America® ballot. First-, second- and third-team Academic All-America® honorees will be announced in early December.
 
To be nominated for the award, student-athletes must be a starter or an important reserve, hold a GPA of at least 3.30 after completing one full calendar year at their current institution. Student athletes must also have competed in at least 50 percent of the team's games during the season.
 
A native of Enid, Okla., Ponce is majoring in accounting and started in all 16 games that he appeared in. In those games, the senior scored two goals on four shots on goal and anchored a defense that logged eight shutouts.
 
A product of Broken Arrow, Okla., Hernandez is majoring in pre-physical therapy and appeared in 12 games with three starts. In those games, he played 481 minutes with seven shots.
 
CoSIDA was founded in 1957 and is a 3,200-plus member national organization comprised of the sports public relations, media relations and communications/information professionals throughout all levels of collegiate athletics in the United States and Canada. The second oldest management association in all of intercollegiate athletics, CoSIDA became an affiliated partner with NACDA (National Association of Collegiate Directors of Athletics) in December of 2008. CoSIDA has been the proud provider of the Academic All-America® Program and Hall of Fame since 1952.
