Dean And Pullum Power Hillcats Past Pittsburg State In Thrilling MIAA Home Opener

CLAREMORE, Okla. – Rogers State men's basketball (6-2, 1-2 MIAA) took a 82-70 victory over Pittsburg State (2-7, 1-2 MIAA) in a game that featured 10 lead changes and six ties in the MIAA home opener on Wednesday.

Four Hillcats finished in double figures in the win. Both Tylan Dean and Devin Pullum led the way for RSU with 19 points. This marked a new career-high for Dean who also added three assists, a rebound and a steal. Pullum added four rebounds and four assists. Brewster Peacock put up 13 points with a rebound and steal. Preston Lawrence contributed 10 points with four rebounds. Gerren Jackson added a team-high seven rebounds.

RSU was a little slow at the start as the Gorillas opened the game on a 9-2 run. The Hillcats found their footing as they mounted a comeback on a 14-3 run to go up 16-12 midway through the half. From there, things grew tight as both teams traded points back and forth for the remainder of the period. PSU came out on top as they took a slim 31-28 lead into the break.

The Hillcats turned it on in the second half as they shot 78 percent from the floor in the final 20 minutes and outscored the Gorillas 54-39 in the period. After RSU retook the lead for the final time at 58-57, they shot a perfect 8-for-8 in the final six minutes, including 3-for-3 from deep, and sank six of their seven free throws to put the game away 82-70.

The Hillcats will look to ride the momentum from this win into Saturday, Dec. 11 as they close out the two-game homestand against Missouri Southern. Tipoff is set for 3:30 p.m.
