EDMOND, Okla. – The Rogers State women's golf team took second overall at the Diffie Ford Lincoln Invitational on Tuesday at the KickingBird Golf Club.
The Hillcats finished with a score of 613 for the event, finishing three shots of the lead in the runner up position in the 15-team field. Rogers State could not make up any ground on Central Oklahoma on a very windy day on the course, as both teams shot rounds of 307 on day two.
Like the team, senior
Sydney Murray also finished three shots of the leader and in a tie for second overall as she climbed the leaderboard on day two to lead Rogers State. Murray finished in a tie for second overall, alongside Megan Brown of Southwestern Oklahoma State, after posting rounds of 75 and 73 in the two-day event.
Murray's second round score of 73 was tied for the second-best round of the entire tournament, matching Jess Green's 73 on day one. Murray finished with five birdies and 20 pars in the two-round event.
Green, who shared the lead with Brown after day one, closed out the invitational with a 77 on Tuesday. Green finished with a150 total over two days to sit in a tie for sixth overall in the event. Green led the Hillcats with six birdies over two days. The junior also had 17 pars.
Mariana Flores climbed three spots on day two, finishing in a tie for 22
nd overall after dropping one shot from her day one round of 79 to finish with a 78 on day two. Flores was second on the team with 18 pars in the event.
Marelda Ayal held steady at 25
th over both days. Ayal wrapped up the scoring rounds for the Hillcats, as she put together back-to-back rounds of 79 to finish well inside the top third of the 88-golfer field. Ayal matched Green with 17 pars in the event.
Jaeylynn Unger finished in a tie for 38
th overall. Unger made it five Hillcats in the top 20 in total pars for the event, as she finished tied for 20
th with 16 over two days. After an 81 on day one, Unger closed out her week with an 84 in the second round.
Paulina Flores wrapped up her official debut for the Hillcats on Tuesday. Golfing as an individual in the event, Flores shot a 95 on day two to finish 72nd overall.
Rogers State will now set its sights on the home tournament for the Hillcats, hosting the 6
th Annual Hillcat Classic on March 15-16. The tournament will be held at the Bailey Ranch Golf Club in Owasso, Oklahoma.
