TAHLEQUAH, Okla. – Rogers State women's soccer (5-0-1) wrapped up their road trip with a 1-1 non-conference draw against Northeastern State (2-2-2) on Sunday.
Desiree Morgas scored the lone goal for the Hillcats on a penalty kick. Savannah Harvey continued her excellent play in goal as she was able to hold off the Riverhawk attack with seven saves, only allowing the one goal.
NSU came out of the gates looking to put pressure on RSU from the start, as they outshot the Hillcats 8-2 in the opening 45 minutes. They eventually found the back of the net and scored the first goal of the match at 19:29. However, the Hillcats got their change to respond less than a minute later as Morgas connected on a penalty kick to knot things up 1-1 at 19:51. The remainder of the half saw the Riverhawks furiously try to regain the lead with five shots, with three of them on goal. The RSU defense stood strong as things remained tied 1-1 going into the intermission.
The second half saw both sides crank up the intensity as NSU again outshot the Hillcats 9-6 in the period. Once again though, both defenses were up to challenge as neither team was able to find pay dirt and ultimately forced overtime.
In the first overtime period, NSU attempted to end things with a shot in the 92nd minute, only for Harvey to keep RSU alive with the save. The second overtime period was a defensive stalemate as neither team got off a shot on goal, ending the game in a 1-1 draw.
The Hillcats will be back in action as they return home on Friday, Sept. 24 for the non-conference finale against Central Oklahoma. Kickoff is slated for 6:30 p.m.
