Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

No. 9 RSU Records Third-Straight Shutout with 2-0 Win Over Cardinals

CLAREMORE, Okla. – No. 9 Rogers State men's soccer (3-0) recorded their third-straight shutout with a 2-0 win over William Jewell (0-2) on Thursday.

Both Jaxon Pitt and Ruben Carrasco led the offense as they found the back of the net in the win. Reigning GAC/MIAA Goalkeeper of the Week Declan Viljoen was again impressive in goal as he turned in his third-straight clean sheet with three saves.

The stifling defense of the Hillcats was the story of the match, as RSU held the Cardinals to only five shots in the entire 90 minutes.

The Hillcats were white hot out of the gate as Jaxon Pitt wasted no time firing in a shot in the first 12 seconds of the game to give the home team an early 1-0 lead. After that, the pace slowed as the remaining 44 minutes devolved into a defensive battle for both teams. RSU was able to get off seven more shots in the half, but remained up 1-0 going into the intermission.

The second half was much like the first as Ruben Carrasco connected on pass from Pitt to increase the Hillcat lead to 2-0 in the 47th minute. Once again, the remainder of the game was a hard fought defensive struggle with RSU got off five more shots in the match. The Hillcats eventually took the victory 2-0.

RSU will be back in action on Saturday, Sept. 11 as they travel to Wichita Falls, Texas for their toughest test yet against No. 23 Midwestern State. Kick off is slated for 7:30 p.m.
