Skalicky Demolishes Mile School Record at Rust Buster

TOPEKA, Kan. – Rogers State men's and women's track and field competed in their first indoor meet of 2022 on Saturday at the MIAA Rust Buster, hosted by Washburn.

In the women's mile, Jillian Skalicky demolished the school record with a time of 5:03.80, finishing third. This obliterates the previous record of 5:23.83 set by Hailey Gillispie in 2018 by 20 seconds. Sara Crosley finished in 21st with a time of 5:57.68.

In the women's 600 yard, Jocelyn Turney finished second with time of 1:30.74. Brya Nyberg finished 14th with a time of 1:37.54.

In the women's 400 meter, Jayden Lazzari finished eighth with a time of 1:03.60, just 0.25 off her personal best. Hannah Anello finished right behind in 10th with a time of 1:03.87.

In the women's 800 meter, Katie Byrd finished third with a time of 2:20.67. Madison Lemons finished 12th with a time of 2:31.49.

In the women's 3,000 meter, Brianna DeAngelis finished third with a new personal best of 10:37.15. Gloria Butts finished 10th with a time of 10:59.60. Elizabeth Ostermaier finished 29th with a time of 12:32.24.

On the men's side, Morne Scharnick was the top finisher in the mile in 23rd with a time of 4:38.99. Garrison Blanton finished 33rd with a time of 4:47.36. Joseph White finished right behind in 34th with a time of 4:49.33. Blaine Phillippi finished 41st with a time of 4:53.59. Blake Phillippi finished 45th with a time of 4:55.40.

In the men's 600 yard, Jayden Newark finished 21st with a time of 1:23.45.

In the men's 400 meter, Garry Rose finished 24th with a time of 54.62.

In the men's 800 meter, Collin McHugh finished 15th with a time of 2:03.73. Morne Scharnick finished 16th with a time of 2:04.12. Garrison Blanton finished 22nd with a time of 2:07.74. Austin Green finished 28th with a time of 2:09.88.

In the men's 3,000 meter, Julius Oheim finished in eighth with a new personal best of 8:40.67. Jackson Stinnett finished ninth with a new personal best of 8:46.91. Kory Wilson finished 12th with a new personal best of 8:52.29. Kyle Ginn finished in 17th with a time of 8:55.34. Caden Goss finished 18th with a time of 8:55.86. Hunter Hart finished 22nd with a new personal best of 8:59.28. Tyler Melton finished 33rd with a time of 9:26.12.

The Hillcats will be back in action on Friday, Jan. 21 as they travel to Pittsburg, Kan. for the Rumble in the Jungle Invitational, hosted by Pittsburg State at the Robert W. Plaster Center.
