CLAREMORE, Okla. – Rogers State women's basketball (7-11, 3-9 MIAA) took down Lincoln (5-12, 1-10 MIAA) for their third-straight win with a 79-71 victory in what was a tale of two halves on Thursday.
Four Hillcats finished in double figures in the win. Vanessa Gajdosova shattered her career-high with an outstanding 28 points to go along with five rebounds and three steals. Bailey Kliewer also played a crucial role posting a double-double of 16 points and 11 rebounds, as well as three steals, two assists and a block. Jordan Lewis posted 15 points with two assists and a rebound. Julie Luna contributed 10 points with four rebounds and two assists.
RSU stumbled out of the gate to start the game. After a tightly contested first five minutes, the Blue Tigers ripped off an 11-4 run to take control with a 16-11 lead. For the rest of the half, LU commanded the pace of the game with the Hillcats only able to briefly tie the game late in the first quarter. Blue Tigers rolled up their largest lead of the game at 38-26 with 1:56 left, and carried a 38-31 advantage into the locker room.
In the second half, RSU looked like a completely different team as they outscored LU 25-11 in the third quarter. The Hillcats battled for most of the quarter to regain the lead, and finally did at 49-48 with 1:54 remaining in the period. From there, they closed out the quarter on a 7-1 run to take a 56-49 lead into the final 10 minutes.
Riding the momentum of the third quarter, the Hillcats began to impose their will on the Blue Tigers in the final period. Everytime LU tried to mount a comeback, RSU had an answer. The Hillcats took their largest lead of the game at 76-63, and eventually rolled to a 79-71 victory.
RSU will be back in action at the Claremore Expo Center on Saturday, Jan. 22 as they play host to Central Missouri. Tipoff is set for 1:30 p.m.
