Hillcats Drop Road Game To Missouri Southern

JOPLIN, Mo. – Rogers State men's basketball (12-7, 6-7 MIAA) dropped an 84-63 game on the road against Missouri Southern (10-7, 7-4 MIAA) on Wednesday.

Devin Pullum led the Hillcats with 14 points and two rebounds. Tylan Dean posted 11 points. Brewster Peacock contributed eight points and a team-high four rebounds.

The Hillcats came out hot as they opened the game on an 8-3 run in the first three minutes. Unfortunately, they went scoreless over the next six minutes while the Lions ripped off a 12-0 run of their own to go up 15-8. That 12-0 run ballooned into a 19-2 run, putting MSSU up 22-10 with 9:55 left in the half. RSU fought to trim the lead down to 28-22, but that would be as close was they would get the rest of the game. The Lions eventually carried a 42-31 advantage into the locker room.

The second half was all Missouri Southern as they outscored the Hillcats 42-32 in the period. They took their first 20-point lead at 70-49 with 7:28 left. MSSU took its largest lead of the game at 84-57, and eventually took the 84-63 victory.

The Hillcats will need to have a short memory as they return to play on Saturday, Jan. 29 on the road in Pittsburg, Kan. against Pittsburg State. Tipoff is slated for 3:30 p.m.
