PITTSBURG. Kan. – Rogers State men's basketball (12-8, 6-8 MIAA) fell on the road in a 88-79 game to Pittsburg State (5-15, 4-10 MIAA) on Saturday.
Two Hillcats finished with at least 20 points on the day. Devin Pullum led the team with 24 points. Jordan Coblin posted 21 points off the bench and was a perfect 10-for-10 from the free throw line with a team-high five assists and two steals. Joey Saracco put up 17 points. Gerren Jackson contributed a team-high seven rebounds with six points.
The first 10 minutes of the game were tightly contested with neither team able to get more than a five point lead. However, the Gorillas began to pull away as they went off on a 9-0 run to take a 22-12 lead with 6:52 left in the half. They eventually pushed out to their largest lead of the game at 32-21 with 2:51 left. The Hillcats battled back and closed out the half on a 14-4 run to trim the deficit to just 36-35 headed into the locker room.
RSU used the momentum from the end of the half to propel themselves into their first lead of the game at 43-40 just over three minutes into the second half. They continued to ride this momentum to their largest lead of the game at 55-47 at 13:11. However, Pitt State went to work and bounced back to retake the lead 66-64 with 6:31 left in the game. From there, the Gorillas took control and mostly used made free throws to cement their victory, making 13-of-14 from the charity stripe in the final two minutes.
The Hillcats will be back in action on Thursday, Feb. 3 as they return home to Claremore Expo Center to face off against Washburn. Tipoff is set for 7:30 p.m.
