LAWTON, Okla. – Rogers State men's basketball (2-2) dropped a 74-71 game to Cameron (2-2) on Saturday.
Three Hillcats put up double figures in the game. Chris Whitaker and Joey Saracco led the Hillcats with 12 points apiece. Whitaker added two rebounds, three assists and a steal while Saracco finished one rebound shy of a double-double with a team-high nine rebounds with two blocks and an assist. Ugo Obineke added 10 points with four rebounds and an assist.
RSU came out of the gates hot as the opened the game on a 14-6 run to start. The Aggies managed to cut the deficit to 14-12 with just under 12 minutes left in the half. The Hillcats answered by pushing their lead back out to eight points at 24-16 and managed to hold Cameron at bay, carrying a 36-28 advantage into the break.
RSU continued to fight coming out of the locker room, taking their largest lead of the night at 44-34. However, the Aggies slowly began to chip away at the deficit and managed to take the lead 51-50 with just over 13 minutes left. From there, the game devolved into a dog fight with both sides trading shots with six lead changes and four ties. With the Hillcats holding a slim 70-69 lead with two minutes left, Cameron managed to put the game away by making five free throws down the stretch and sealing the 74-71 win.
The Hillcats will return home on Tuesday, Nov. 22 as they welcome Southwestern Christian into the Claremore Expo Center. Tipoff is set 7 p.m.
