CLAREMORE, Okla. – Brewster Peacock made history on Wednesday, but Rogers State men's basketball (14-10, 8-10 MIAA) came up short against No. 18 Central Oklahoma (21-4, 16-3 MIAA) in the 89-79 game on Wednesday.
Brewster Peacock reached rarified air on the night, joining Jeylyn Sharpe as only the second player in school history to score 1,000 points and 500 rebounds. With his 13 points and five rebounds in the game, Peacock currently boasts 1,312 points and 502 rebounds in his career.
Two other Hillcats also finished in double digits. Tylan Dean led the team and posted a new career high with 25 points and a team-high seven rebounds as well as two assists and a steal. Devin Pullum also contributed 19 points with three rebounds and a team-high three assists.
The first half was close from the tip, with both teams trading shots early. After the back-and-forth at the start, the Bronchos were able to build a 14-9 lead. However, RSU answered with a 17-4 run to go up 26-18 with 6:48 left in the half. UCO battled back and was able cut the deficit to one point, but the Hillcats hung on and took a 40-36 advantage into the locker room.
The second half was a different story as the Bronchos outscored RSU 55-39, with 24 of those points coming from free throws. The Hillcats still battled and managed to keep it close with eight lead changes and five ties. UCO pulled away late to take the 89-79 win.
RSU will be back in action at the Claremore Expo Center on Saturday, Feb. 19 as they play host to Newman. Tipoff is set for 3:30 p.m.
