No. 14 RSU Wins Natural State Classic

CABOT, Ark. – No. 14 Rogers State women's golf won the Natural State Classic in the final round on Tuesday.

"I am extremely proud of the team and their performance this week," said head coach Whitney Hocutt. "They have been capable of this, and put two great rounds together. The greens were tough and the ladies mentally overcame this obstacle. Everyone fought for every shot and minimized mistakes, which we have been working hard to do. I am very proud of them and cannot wait to see them compete the rest of the season. Overall, this was a great week as a team. Thank you to Cypress Creek and Harding University for hosting this week."

After two rounds at the par 72, 6,018-yard Cypress Creek Golf Club, the Hillcats won with a card of 602 (+26), eight strokes ahead of second place.

"Senior Jess Green came in and played great for two rounds," Hocutt continued. "We also had two freshmen, Lydia & Kristin, step up and place third and fifth. Marelda and Raquel also had great rounds this week. They each fought hard and kept a good score together for the team. Jaelynn came in this week and played great. Ellen also fought hard and played well this week."

Jessica Green led the squad with a second place finish after shooting 146 (+2) for the tournament. She finished with the low round of the tournament with a 72 in the final round, and sank six birdies through 36 holes.

Lydia Sitorus finished in third with a card of 148 (+4), and also shot a 72 in the first round. Marelda Ayal and Raquel Flores finished in a group of six tied at 16th with performances of 156 (+12). Jaelynn Unger rounded out the group in a four-way tie for 25th after shooting 158 (+14).

Playing as individuals, Kristin Gudmundsdottir finished fifth with a card of 151 (+7), while Ellen Loving finished in a four-way tie for 43rd with a card of 163 (+19).

The Hillcats will be back in action on Monday, March 14 as they return home to host the Hillcat Classic in Owasso, Okla. at Bailey Ranch Golf Club.
