Six Hillcats Earn All MIAA Honors

KANSAS CITY, Mo. – Rogers State baseball had six players named All-MIAA, the league announced on Thursday.
 
Prescott Horn was named First Team All-MIAA. The Apache Junction, Ariz. native was one of the best offensive players in the league during the regular season ranking fifth with a .394 average and leading the MIAA in on base percentage (.493) and doubles (22), a mark which broke the single season school record. The senior also led the Hillcats with 52 RBI, 30 walks and a 1.076 OPS average.
 
Gavin Mestas was named Second Team All-MIAA. The Durango, Colo. product finished the regular season hitting .343 with 27 extra base hits, including a triple and a team-high eight home runs. The junior also posted a team-high .586 slugging percentage as well as a .420 on base percentage and a 1.006 OPS average.
 
Horn and Jesse Holguin earned Gold Gloves for their work in the outfield and at shortstop, respectively. Horn finished the regular season with a .956 fielding percentage only making three errors with 74 putouts and nine assists in 86 chances. Holguin finished with a .963 fielding percentage making six errors with 61 putouts and a team-high 94 assists in 161 chances.
 
Four Hillcats were named All-MIAA Honorable Mention. AJ Folds hit .352 with 18 extra base hits, including a team-high three triples and a home run, as well as 17 RBI, 17 walks and a .936 OPS average.
Holguin, finished the regular season hitting .292 with 11 extra base hits, including two home runs, as well as 42 RBI, 22 walks and a .739 OPS average. Rece Parker pitched to a 6-3 record with a 5.77 ERA in 73.1 innings with a team-high 67 strikeouts. Octavio Sanchez led the MIAA in saves (7) and finished 3-0 on the mound with a 2.66 ERA in 20.1 innings and 23 strikeouts.
 
The Hillcats will begin their postseason journey as the No. 8-seed in the first round of the MIAA Tournament on Friday, May 5 as they travel to Warrensburg, Mo. to face off against No. 1-seed Central Missouri in a best-of-three series. First pitch for game one is set for 6 p.m.
