Hillcats Cruise Past Ozark Christian

CLAREMORE, Okla. - Rogers State women's basketball (5-5) cruised past Ozark Christian (3-1), as they won the game 99-44 on Saturday afternoon at the Claremore Expo Center.

"This was a good win for our team," said Head Coach Heather Davis. "We moved the ball well and made several shots in the second half. In the first half, we got good looks but the shots were not falling. Many of our girls set career-highs not just in points, but with rebounds and on defense, which was great to see. We did so many good things today and got everyone some minutes, but as always we just need to keep getting better as a team."

Both Ella Hafer and Emma Kay Martin led the way with 20 points apiece. Hafer posted her fourth double-double of the season, with 20 points and 16 rebounds. She also knocked down 10 shots from the field and recorded four steals, which are all season-highs for her. In addition to her 20 points, Martin also had eight rebounds and shot 10-12 from the field, which is a season-high in all three categories.

Cheyan McDaniel added 14 points and four steals, both season highs for her.  Kate Melton and Michelle Arens used great imagination to move the ball with their passes, as each had four assists. Melton also grabbed seven rebounds, a season-high for her. Arens tallied six rebounds. The shots were falling for the Hillcats, as they shot 52.9 percent with 60 points in the paint.

RSU wasted no time and jumped out to a 12-0 lead to start the game. The Hillcats did not allow OCC to score until the 4:42 mark in the first quarter. However, RSU continued to score and found themselves in front 21-7 at the end of the first quarter.

The second quarter was similar to the first quarter as the Hillcats only allowed seven points in the period, and carried a 40-14 advantage into the locker room.

OCC found some success on offense out of the break and scored 23 points, but RSU still managed to outscore them 28-23 in the third quarter. Coming down the stretch, the Hillcats locked down on defense and opened the final 10 minutes on a 14-0 run. Again, the Ambassadors didn't score until the 4:25 mark, and only scored seven points in the period. The end result was an RSU victory with the final score of 99-47. This was the most points scored, the biggest margin of victory and the least points allowed by RSU all season.

The Hillcats return to the floor at the Claremore Expo Center for their annual Claremore Elementary Day game on Wednesday, Dec. 18,  facing off against Randall. Tipoff is set for 11 a.m.
