Hillcats Earn No. 5 Seed In MIAA Tournament With Win Over Lincoln In Regular Season Finale

JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. – Rogers State men's basketball (17-11, 14-8 MIAA) handled their business in a 70-62 win over Lincoln (14-14, 9-13 MIAA) in the regular season finale on the road on Saturday.
 
Five Hillcats finished in double figures in the win. Rodney Battle led all scorers with 17 points to go with four rebounds, two assists and a steal. Anthony Marshall Jr. added 13 points with six rebounds and five assists. Kofi Hamilton put up 12 points with a team-high seven rebounds. Isaac Johnson posted 11 points with a team-high seven rebounds as well. Evan Anderson contributed 10 points, two rebounds, an assist, a block and a steal.
 
The game started as a back-and-forth affair with seven lead changes and a tie in the first 10 minutes. In that span, neither team could get more than a single possession lead. RSU came out on top as they were able to string together a 9-2 run to go up 25-19 with just over seven minutes left in the half. They held serve for the rest of the period and took a 33-26 lead into the break.
 
They carried their momentum in the second half as they were able to jump out to a double-digit advantage at 40-30 thanks to a 7-4 run to begin the period. They eventually built out the margin to its largest at 48-36 with 12:26 left. The Blue Tigers tried multiple times make a comeback, but the Hillcats had an answer every time they to attempted make a move. They were able to hold Lincoln at bay down the stretch and eventually claimed the 70-62 win.
 
With the win, RSU earned the No. 5 seed in the MIAA Tournament and will take on No. 4 seed Washburn in the quarterfinals on Friday, March 8 inside historic Municipal Auditorium in Kansas City, Mo. Tipoff is set for 6 p.m.
