The Hillcats jumped on the board first with an early 2-0 lead in the first inning. AJ Folds led off the game with an infield single back to the pitcher and then advanced to second on a wild pitch. Washburn added a run in the second on a sacrifice fly to left. They increased their lead to 6-2 in the third on another sacrifice fly, this one to right.

In the bottom of the fifth, RSU pushed across three runs to cut the lead to 6-5. Joel Escalante launched a three-run blast to right field, scoring Folds and Mitchell.

The Ichabods pushed the lead back out to 9-5 in the fifth with three runs. Two singles through the left side of the infield brought in the runs.

The Hillcats got a run back in the sixth to trim the deficit to 9-6 on a Mitchell RBI groundout to short that allowed Matthew Schure to score.

Washburn extended their lead in the sixth to 11-6 with back-to-back solo home runs. They scored five final runs in the eighth to go up 15-6. Three RBI singles plated the first three runs with the fourth scoring from third on a balk.

The Hillcats got one more run in the top of the ninth to set the final score at 15-7 as Folds came in on a wild pitch.

Chase Torkelson (4-0) earned the win. Christopher Spry (1-3) took the loss.

The Hillcats will return home on Tuesday, April 2 as they step out of MIAA play to face off against Southeastern Oklahoma State in a non-conference, mid-week contest. First pitch is set for 1 p.m.
