Hillcats Fall To Pittsburg State In Game One Of MIAA Tournament First Round Series

PITTSBURG, Kan. – Rogers State baseball (24-24) fell 11-1 to Pittsburg State (33-16) in the opening game of the first round, best of three series in the MIAA Tournament on Friday.

The game started off as a pitchers' duel with neither starter allowing a run in the first three innings. Colton Anderson scattered one hit over that span and left two runners stranded. The Gorillas' Tanner Leslie was likewise perfect in those frames.

The Hillcats broke the ice in the fourth inning as they took a 1-0 lead. After Matthew Schure led off the frame with a single to left center, Matthew Delgado drove him in with a double down the right field line.

Pitt State roared to life in the home half of the frame as they broke the game open with eight runs for an 8-1 lead. Two RBI singles, a two RBI triple, an error by the third baseman, another RBI triple and a RBI ground out to second scored the runs.

The Gorillas tack on another run in the bottom of the fifth to go up 9-1 thanks to a solo homer to left center.

They sealed the 11-1 win in the seventh inning with two RBI singles up the middle.

Tanner Leslie (10-2) earned the win. Anderson (4-5) took the loss.

RSU will look to bounce back in a do-or-die game two tomorrow. First pitch is set for 2 p.m.
