Byrd Wins Mile, Hillcats Set Multiple Personal Bests At Washburn Rust Buster

TOPEKA, Kan. – Rogers State men's and women's track and field opened the 2025 portion of the indoor track schedule setting or breaking multiple personal bests at the Washburn Rust Buster on Friday.
 
The highlight of the day came in the women's mile as Katie Byrd won the event with a time of 5:11.90. Cadence Cordova finished right behind her in second with a time of 5:11.99. Rayna Kucharyski finished in fourth with a time of 5:17.12. Jordan Wallace finished in sixth setting a personal best with a time of 5:18.01 as a freshman. Ashley Riggenbach finished in eighth with a time of 5:19.41. Kaylee Nay finished in ninth setting a personal best with a time of 5:22.29 as a freshman. Riley Coleman finished in 13th with a time of 5:30.48.
 
In the men's mile, Aidan Jimenez led the way in 10th place setting a personal best time of 4:27.01 as a freshman. DeShawn Crowe finished in 16th with a new personal best time of 4:28.77,12.99 seconds faster than his previous best. Blake Feron finished in 27th with a time of 4:33.60. Devyn Llewellyn finished in 39th setting a personal best time of 4:41.66 as a freshman. Lee Davis finished in 43rd setting a personal best time of 4:43.79 as a freshman. Brian Slone finished in 55th setting a personal best time of 4:52.88 as a freshman.
 
In the men's 300 meter, Phillip Owens finished in second with a new personal best time of 34.81, besting his previous top mark by 1.93 seconds and was only 0.04 seconds off the school record set by Ricky Bell in 2017.
 
In the men's 400 meter, Solomon Higgins finished in 18th with a new personal best time of 51.12, which surpassed his previous best by 1.35 seconds. Ian Conder finished in 24th with a time of 51.42. Isaac Conder finished in 38th setting an indoor personal best with a time of 53.20.
 
In the women's 400 meter, Ann-Marie Dorsey finished in 14th with a new personal best time of 1:01.04, passing her previous best by 0.80 seconds. Savanna Wainscott finished in 25th setting a personal best time of 1:04.28 as a freshman.
 
In the men's 800 meter, Sam Hays finished in 26th setting a personal best time of 2:03.80 as a freshman. Malik Bridgeman finished in 28th with a time of 2:05.93. Casey Little finished in 32nd setting an indoor person best with a time of 2:08.26.
 
In the women's 800 meter, Kenzie Gilliam finished in fifth with a time of 2:25.19. Sisely Mitchell finished in 10th and set a personal best time of 2:27.84 as a freshman. Brooklyn Garafola finished in 16th and set an indoor personal best with a time of 2:31.85. Leyla Saldana finished in 24th with a time of 2:35.34. Isabel Bush finished in 32nd with a time of 2:40.47.
 
In the men's 3,000 meter, Kyle Ginn finished in 12th with a time of 8:48.08. Nathaneal Gibson finished right behind him in 13th setting a personal best time of 8:48.09. Cade McCall finished in 17th with a new personal best time of 8:51.42,  1.20 seconds faster than his previous best. Julius Oheim finished in 21st with a time of 8:55.73. Clint Stapleton finished in 33rd setting a personal best with a time of 9:11.94. Nathan Hernandez finished in 39th with a time of 9:22.10. Colton Storm finished in 45th with a time of 9:36.88.
 
In the women's 3,000 meter, Emily Cruz finished in sixth setting a personal best time of 10:46.07 as a freshman. Tehya Lang finished in 11th setting a personal best time of 10:56.98 as a freshman. Kiera Blumhof finished in 13th setting a personal best time of 10:59.83 as a freshman. Elena Fries finished in 15th with a season-best time of 11:05.97, improving the mark by 4.97 seconds. Jillian Skalicky finished in 26th with a time of 11:46.01. Ryann Barber finished in 27th with a new personal best time of 11:47.66, surpassing her previous best by 8.17 seconds.
 
In the men's 4x400 meter relay, the team of Solomon Higgins, Ian Conder, DeShawn Crowe and Phillip Owens combined to finish in fifth with a time of 3:20.02.
 
The Hillcats return to action on Friday, Jan. 24 when they travel to Pittsburg, Kan. to compete in the Rumble in the Jungle at the Robert W. Plaster Center, hosted by Pittsburg State.
