Morefield Wraps Up Cross Country Season at NCAA National Championships

The junior finished 215th in the national championship race on Saturday morning

KENOSHA, Wis. – Junior Amy Morefield represented Rogers State women's cross country at the 2025 NCAA Division II Cross Country Championship on Saturday at Wayne E. Danehl National Cross Country Course.

"Amy has had an excellent season; she earned her spot at the national meet and should be proud of that," commented head coach Matt Kennedy. "Today wasn't the result we hoped for, but it doesn't change the trajectory she's on. She'll be back at national meets in the future, and I think this experience will only make her better."

Morefield concluded her historic first season with the Hillcats by finishing 215th out of 263 runners at the national championship race, crossing the finish line in 23:02.6. She started strong, residing at 53rd in the opening 1,000 meters, but fell behind the pack in the final 5,000 meters.

The Fairview, Texas, native will be etched in the RSU cross country record books as the current school record holder in the women's 6K (21:08.27), highest-ever finisher at the NCAA Central Region Championship (5th) and tied for best finish at the MIAA Championships (4th). She is also the first Hillcat to win at the RSU Distance After Dark race. Additionally, Morefield is an all-region runner, an All-MIAA First Team finisher and was named MIAA Athlete of the Week, becoming just the second Hillcat to receive that honor.

Tristian Spence of Adams State won the individual title, while Grace Strongman from Colorado Mines took second place with a time of 20:11.0. Claire Rethman of Walsh finished third in 20:21.3. Paige Mullen from Pittsburg State was the top finisher from the MIAA, placing 10th, followed by Fort Hays State's Emily McCullough in 12th.

Top-ranked Grand Valley State claimed the team title with a score of 65. No. 3 Colorado Mines finished second with a score of 69, while No. 8 Wingate (131 points), No. 2 Adams State (168 points), and No. 5 Western Colorado (206 points) rounded out the top five.

With the cross country season now complete, the Hillcats will shift their focus to the indoor track and field season, which begins in December. For updates and schedule announcements, visit 2025-26 Women's Track and Field Schedule - Rogers State University
