Hillcats Win Bronze, Break School Records On First Day Of MIAA Indoor Championships

MARYVILLE, Mo. –  Rogers State men's and women's track and field wrapped up the first day of competition at the MIAA Indoor Track and Field Championships on Saturday.
 
The highlight of the day came in the women's distance medley relay as the team of Katie Byrd, Ann-Marie Dorsey, Sisely Mitchell and Cadence Cordova combined to win bronze with a third place finish and a new school record time of 11:48.89. Not only is this time a NCAA Division II provisional time, it is the 23rd fastest time in the nation this season and is 15.97 faster than the previous record set by Tori Wood, Hannah Anello, Madison Bradshaw and Byrd in 2023.
 
In the men's distance medley relay, the team of DeShawn Crowe, Phillip Owens, Solomon Higgins and Ian Conder combined to finish in eighth with a time of 10:10.99
 
In the men's 600 yard preliminaries, Isaac Conder finished second with a new school record time of 1:11.48, which is .10 seconds faster than Phillip Owens' record set earlier this season. Owens finished in third with a new personal best time of 1:11.54, which is .04 seconds faster than his previous best. With their performances, both Conder and Owens advance to the event final tomorrow.
 
In the women's 800 meter preliminaries, Kenzie Gilliam finished in sixth with a new personal best time of 2:21.54, which is 1.05 seconds faster than her previous best time. Savannah Wainscott finished in eighth with a time of 2:22.61. Kaylee Nay finished in ninth with a time of 2:28.99. Both Gilliam and Wainscott advance to the event final tomorrow.
 
In the men's 5,000 meter, Cade McCall finished in 14th with a new personal best time of 15:08.09, shattering his previous best by 16.18 seconds. Kyle Ginn finished in 21st with a 15:13.62. Julius Oheim finished in 24th with a time of 15:30.88. Blake Feron finished in 26th with a time of 16:05.48.
 
In the women's 5,000 meter, Ashley Riggenbach finished in seventh with a time of 17:43.19. Rayna Kucharyski finished in 13th with a time of 18:11.26. Emily Cruz finished in 18th with a time of 18:36.37. Riley Coleman finished in 20th with a time of 18:49.00. Kiera Blumhof finished in 21st with a time of 18:54.17.
 
RSU will close out the championships tomorrow, competing in eight more events.
