CORINTH, Texas – Senior
Brianna Maddux's best career round propelled the Hillcats to a tie for third place at the DBU Classic, held at Oakmont CC in Texas on Tuesday. The Hillcats jumped five spots in the team race and had three players finish in the top 30.
Rogers State improved its round score by nine strokes to tie for third with Midwestern State, as both teams posted a total score of 583 (+7). Last year's national champion, Dallas Baptist, dominated the field with a score of 566 (-10). UT Tyler finished even par with a score of 576, while Central Missouri, the national runner-up and three-time defending MIAA champion, shot 587 (+11) to finish sixth, four strokes behind the Cats.
Maddux finished the tournament tied for fifth with a two-round score of 142 (-2), climbing 25 spots from round one. The Owasso, Oklahoma, native recorded a career-best score of 68 (-4) on a par-72 course, with all her holes played at par or below. She shot a 35 on the front nine, including one birdie, to finish even. On the back nine, she closed out strong with three birdies, finishing three strokes under par.
Freshman
Lou Fourdan had her best round as a Hillcat, finishing two strokes under par to bring her tournament total to 145 (+1). With four birdies, she climbed 27 spots to finish tied for 14th.
Sophomore
Milena Andres concluded the tournament tied for 25th with a score of 147 (+3) after shooting a final round of 74 (+2). Junior
Lauren Anderson tied for 36th in the individual standings with a score of 149 (+5), while junior
Rylan Ashley posted a two-round total of 153 (+9) to finish tied for 60
th.
RSU women's golf will return to action on Oct. 13-14 in Warrensburg, Missouri (Mules National GC), for the Midwest Classic.
