WINGATE, N.C. – Hillcat baseball (21-3, 9-1 MIAA) continues to make history in the 2026 season, tying a program-best 21st-place ranking in the Week 6 NCBWA poll with 95 points. Rogers State was last ranked 21st in 2023 after a 9-1 start to the season.
This marks the second consecutive week the Hillcats have been ranked by the NCBWA, having debuted at No. 24 last week. They are coming off a decisive 13-6 victory over Central Oklahoma on Tuesday night at Chickasaw Bricktown Ballpark in Oklahoma City, home of the OKC Comets. RSU has now collected 13 straight wins to add to the best start in the NCAA Division II era.
In the win over UCO,
Damon Anderson-Wolf (5-0) pitched 5.2 innings, allowing five hits, striking out four batters and conceding only two earned runs.
Jake Mitchell went 2-for-4 with three RBIs, two runs and a walk, while
Trevor Spainhoward contributed two hits, including a double.
Nathan Gutierrez and
Luis Fuentes each recorded two hits as well.
Pittsburg State remains the top-ranked team in the country with 498 points and 18 first-place votes, followed by defending national champions Tampa with 478 points and two first-place votes. Also from the MIAA, Central Missouri is ranked sixth with 385 points.
Additionally, the Hillcats achieved their highest-ever ranking at No. 15 in the ABCA poll this week, accumulating 157 points.
Rogers State will remain on the road this weekend for a three-game series against the Newman Jets in Wichita, Kansas. Games at McCarthy Field are scheduled for 3 p.m. Friday, 2 p.m. Saturday and noon Sunday.
