RUSSELLVILLE, Ark. — Rogers State baseball senior
Zach Horwith was named the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association (NCBWA) Central Region Pitcher of the Week, the organization announced Tuesday.
Horwith, who was also recognized as the MIAA Pitcher of the Week on Monday, achieved this honor after throwing a no-hitter in the series opener against Emporia State. He became only the second player in program history to accomplish this feat, joining
Tim Luce (2017-18), who recorded the first no-hitter in the 2018 season opener against Randall.
In his eighth start of the season, the Castle Rock, Colorado, native struck out five batters and issued only two walks in 7.0 innings of work, leading the Hillcats to a 14-0 victory in a seven-inning run-rule over the Hornets.
With this recognition, Horwith joins current San Francisco Giant
Spencer Bivens (2017-18) as the only players in program history to be named NCBWA Regional Pitcher of the Week. Bivens earned the honor for the South Central Region on March 7, 2018.
