Hillcats Breeze Past Oklahoma Wesleyan, 83-60

BARTLESVILLE, Okla. - Tuesday night's rematch with Oklahoma Wesleyan figured to be a big test for the Rogers State Hillcats.

RSU was coming off its first road loss and was without the services of sophomore anchor Yoda Woods due to injury. The Lady Eagles were seeking revenge on their home floor after a narrow 61-57 loss to RSU in the season opener.

Instead, OWU was ambushed by the Hillcats and run out of its own gym in a decidedly one-sided affair, 83-60. RSU jumped out to a 10-0 lead as five different Cats scored a basket in the first four minutes of the game. Joni Shellenberger finally put Oklahoma Wesleyan on the scoreboard with a baseline jumper with 15:55 left in the first half.

Hayley KnifeChief drained a three to extend the lead to 18-6 before OWU went on a 7-0 run. Erin Elam cut the lead to 18-13 with 12 minutes left. But, RSU answered by scoring 15 of the next 21 points and led by 14 with five minutes remaining in the first half. KnifeChief had 12 points off the bench in the first half.

The Hillcats refused to let OWU back into the contest in the second half. Four RSU players finished in double figures, led by Bailey Woods with 19. The freshman from Siloam Springs, Ark., recorded her first double-double by also grabbing 11 rebounds. Freshman Katie Rice turned in her second double-double performance with 12 points and 10 boards. Andrea Robinson tallied 11 points while KnifeChief finished with 18.

Rogers State (3-2) completed the season sweep of OWU and will take the Thanksgiving holiday off before returning to the court on Monday. RSU will face another tough road challenge at Division II foe Southeastern Oklahoma State. Tip-off is set for 6 p.m. and the game can be heard live on RSU Radio 91.3 FM.
