Late Run Keys RSU Victory over Golden Eagles, 68-65

SILOAM SPRINGS, Ark. - Rogers State scored the last 10 points of the game and stole a road win from John Brown at the Murray Sells Athletic Center in Siloam Springs, Ark., on Thursday.

JBU led 65-58 with 3:40 to play after Emily Ortiz knocked down a three from the wing. Freshman Hayley KnifeChief keyed the final surge by the Hillcats with six points down the stretch as RSU edged the Golden Eagles, 68-65.

RSU jumped out to a 19-9 lead in the first seven minutes of the game. The Golden Eagles came roaring back to a claim a 32-30 advantage with just a few seconds remaining in the first half. Ashley Coleman drilled a 30-foot shot at the half time buzzer to give RSU a 33-32 lead heading into the locker room.

John Brown built a seven-point second half lead by knocking down four 3-pointers and shooting 50-percent from the field. Ortiz finished with 15 points while Tulsa-transfer Micaela Cully added 14. However, KnifeChief proved to be the difference as she put the Hillcats over the top on a transition layup with just 50 seconds remaining to make it 66-65. The Claremore High School product hit two free throws with seven seconds left to seal the victory.

KnifeChief and Tasha Parker both finished with 15 points as the Hillcats shot 52-percent from the floor for the game.

Rogers State (5-4, 2-1) earned its second conference win and will enjoy the next eight days off before stepping out of conference play next weekend. The Hillcats will travel to Langston University on Dec. 15, for a rematch with the Lady Lions. Tip-off is set for 3 p.m.
