CLAREMORE, Okla. - The Rogers State women's basketball team notched its first ever win on homecoming with an 81-51 victory over Central Christian College in the season opener Saturday afternoon at the Claremore Expo.
Â
After a slow start, the Hillcats methodically pulled away from the Lady Tigers and cruised to a 30-point win. Senior transfer Jenny Hardin led all scorers with 14 points. She was joined in double figures by Yoda Woods and Hunter Peterson with 13 and 11 points, respectively.
Â
RSU led by only two points with five minutes remaining in the first half before closing the period on a 15-4 run. Woods scored 10 of her 13 points in the opening frame and Hardin beat the halftime buzzer with a running jumper to give the Cats a 45-32 advantage at the break.
Â
Hardin opened the second half with back-to-back buckets inside and RSU never looked back. The Hillcats used their distinct height advantage to grab 21 more rebounds and take 25 more shots than Central Christian. Freshman Logan Froese led all players with 12 boards to go along with eight points in her official Hillcat debut.
Â
Coach Amy Williams' club committed 21 turnovers on the afternoon. However, the Cats forced the Lady Tigers into 30 miscues with 16 steals. Central Christian was held to just 23 percent shooting in the second half. The RSU bench outscored the visitor's bench, 36-7 overall.
