No. 6 Southern Nazarene Silences Rogers State, 80-54

BETHANY, Okla. - Rogers State ran into an ambush at the Sawyer Center Thursday night as sixth-ranked Southern Nazarene rolled to an 80-54 victory over the Hillcats in Bethany, Okla.

The Crimson Storm opened the game on a 10-0 run and quickly left RSU in its wake. The Hillcats missed 14 of their first 15 shots and trailed 20-5 at the midway point of the first half. The Cats made a brief run to cut the deficit to 11, but were unable to get back within single digits. Jeremy Lightfoot closed the half with an emphatic dunk and the Storm took a 36-20 lead into the locker room.

SNU picked up right where it left off in the second half with eight quick points. Lightfoot scored a layup on the opening possession and AJ Thomas followed with a trey. Jon West drilled a long three on the Storm's third possession and effectively closed the door on RSU's hopes for a second half comeback. SNU led comfortably the rest of night behind a 50 percent shooting effort.

Lightfoot led all scorers with 22 points on 9 of 10 shooting. Thomas chipped in with 14 points while West added 13. The Storm held RSU to 38 percent shooting on the night and outrebounded the Hillcats by a wide margin, 46-24.

Deveric Taylor was the only RSU player to reach double figures with 16 points. Matt Kellogg contributed nine points with three treys and John Boyd and Theo Davis tallied eight points apiece. The 54-point outing was a season low for the Hillcats, who entered the night averaging 80 points per contest.

Rogers State (11-7, 4-6) suffered its second straight loss to a Top 10 opponent and will look to rebound at home Saturday afternoon against USAO. The Hillcats will host the Drovers for a 5 p.m. contest at the Claremore Expo and the first 250 fans will receive a free message fan courtesy of the RSU athletic department.
