TULSA, Okla. – The Rogers State men's basketball team fell in an exhibition against Oral Roberts, 77-63 on Saturday night at the Mabee Center.

Alburey Doss contributed the first eight points of the game for the Hillcats, capped off by a jumper in the paint to bring the Hillcats within one point of ORU (9-8).  The Golden Eagles got their first double-digit lead in the closing seconds of the first half with a layup by Roderick Pearson, giving ORU a 39-29 lead at the break.

ORU held onto the lead throughout the second half, building a 21 point lead (65-64) with less than nine minutes to play in the game.  The Hillcats used a 9-0 run to get back in the game; seven of the points came from senior John Boyd who capped off the run with a bucket from long distance. 

Down 71-60 with 3:57 to play, the Golden Eagles shut the door on the RSU with back-to-back buckets.

John Boyd led the Hillcats with 19 points.  Aubrey Doss and Matt Kellogg rounded out the double digit scoring, chipping in 12 points apiece.

"John (Boyd) played well tonight," Head Coach Justin Barkley said. "He brought energy to the court and made some big shots to keep us in the game."

The Golden Eagles won the battle on the boards, out-rebounding the Hillcats 41-26.

"I'm really happy with the way our guys played tonight," Barkley said. "We are going to have to get better on the boards but that can be fixed."

ORU had four players finish with double figures. Damen Bell-Holter led the Golden Eagles recording a double-double. The sophomore from Hydaburg, Alaska finished with 26 points and 12 rebounds. Niles Warren scored 15 points; Dominique Morrison added 12 points and Steven Rountree recorded 10 points.

The Hillcats return to action at the Claremore Expo on Monday, Nov. 8 against Huston-Tillotson at 7 p.m.
