DALLAS, Texas – The Rogers State men's basketball team captured an 81-73 victory over Dallas Christian College Thursday night inside DCC Gymnasium.
RSU claimed its largest lead of the opening stanza at 37-23 on a Kendrell Thompson layup from Donald Williams with 5:48 to go before the half. Thompson tallied 11 points in the first half as RSU held the halftime lead 41-32.
DCC cut the Hillcat lead to single digits four times in the second period the last coming with five minutes remaining with RSU leading 73-66. The Cats went on an 11-5 run in the closing stretch to secure the 81-73 win.
The Crusaders were led in scoring by Donte Choice with 21 points while Malcolm McCarty Jr. chipped in 20. Isaac Gonazalez recorded a double-double with 16 points and 14 rebounds for DCC.
Thompson led the Hillcats, tying the game high, with 18 points. Justynn Hammond totaled 14 points while A.J. Stewart and Meneptha Darden added 13 apiece. RSU shot 53 percent from the field and out-rebounded the Crusaders 37-32.
No. 5 Rogers State (11-0) will travel to Houston, Texas on Dec. 21 for an exhibition match-up with the Houston Cougars at 7 p.m. Live audio streaming will be provided at www.rsuhillcats.com/live.
