LAS COLINAS, Texas – No. 18 Rogers State men's golf team rebounded nicely from an 11th place finish a week ago by finishing fifth at the Wyndham Spring Invitational at TPC Four Season.
The Hillcats navigated the 6,547 yard, par 70 course for a team card of 898 finishing eight strokes behind fourth place Texas Wesleyan as four Sooner Athletic Conference teams packed the top five.
NAIA No. 1-ranked Oklahoma Christian led the way with a team total of 873. No. 3 Oklahoma City and Southern Nazarene tied for second as each penciled an 885 team score.
Bradley Phelps led the Hillcats, finishing tied for seventh shooting 10-over par for the tournament. Phelps posted scores of 70-73-77 for a three-round total of 220 as his opening round 70 was the lone Cat to shoot even par for a round.
Finishing alone at 18th, Tanner Owens shot 15-over with an opening two rounds of 73-74. The junior from Fort Gibson, Okla. closed out the invitational with a 78 for a 225.
Josh Bernard finished one stroke behind Owens, tied for 19th, as Bernard posted scores of 77-76-73-226. Bo Sarratt was able to make up for a less than stellar opening two rounds as the senior shot four-over, 74 in the third round for a 231 total to finish at 36th. Max Rosen closed out the Cats with rounds of 75-79-79 to shoot 233 and tie for 37th place.
Fifteen teams competed in the Wyndham Spring Invitational as OC's Jared Consoli captured the individual crown for the Eagles carding an opening round two-under par, 68 followed with rounds of 70 and 73. Consoli shot one-over-par for the tournament with a tournament card of 211 two strokes ahead of Southern Nazarene's Sam Russell in second place.
The Hillcat men's team returns to the competitive links March 11-12 at the UST Mamiya Texas Intercollegiate hosted by Texas Wesleyan in Fort Worth, Texas.
