CLAREMORE, Okla. - The Rogers State baseball team dropped a 4-1 decision to Northeastern State on Tuesday afternoon at the Diamond Sports Complex.
The Hillcats took an early 1-0 lead in the first frame but where held scoreless the rest of the way. Alex Cochran led off the first inning with a single and advanced to third on a throwing error. Chase Knott followed with a single to drive in Cochran and give RSU the lead.
RSU left runners on base in eight of the nine innings with 13 runners in all stranded throughout the game.
The Riverhawks wouldn't trail for long, taking a 2-1 lead in the top of the second, capitalizing on two RSU errors. NSU added an insurance run in the third and the Hillcats threatened in the bottom of the inning but left runners stranded on second and third. In the sixth, NSU pushed the lead to 4-1.
The Hillcats threatened in the seventh, stranding two base runners. Both teams tallied three errors in the contest. Six pitchers went to the mound for the Hillcats with Zach Tyson taking the loss, tossing two innings, allowing two runs on one hit with two strikeouts.
Zach Hammock registered the win for NSU, tossing 3.2 innings, allowing one unearned run on two hits with three strikeouts.
Rogers State (7-4) returns to action on Friday as the Hillcats host the University of Arkansas-Fort Smith in a three-game Heartland Conference series. The games will be streamed live on the Hillcat Network at www.rsuhillcats.com/live.
