CLAREMORE, Okla. – Rogers State's
Andrew Vanisi and
Michael Fusselman swept the Heartland Conference Hitter and Pitcher of the Week awards, respectively, as announced by the conference office Monday.
Vanisi closed his home portion of the season with a bang this past week. The senior smashed 10 hits, five going for extra bases with four home runs, including a school record three home runs in a single-game against Newman on Senior Day. Vanisi posted a 1.438 slugging percentage in four games with 23 total bases moving his conference-leading home run total to 11. Through the weekend, he holds a 13-game hit streak, raising his season batting average to a team-best .362 with multi-hit efforts in each of the last six games.
Fusselman pitched the Hillcats to a win against Newman throwing his first complete-game shutout. The junior finished the seven-inning game allowing just five hits while striking out a season-high six. The Jets managed only a .200 batting average against the right-handed hurler; and he only walked one batter.
The Hillcats will round out their conference slate with a road trip to Goodwell, Oklahoma to take on Oklahoma Panhandle State May 1-2. The three-game series will open on Friday with a doubleheader at 1 p.m.
