RSU Baseball Closes Series Sweep of Colorado Christian

CLAREMORE, Okla. – The Rogers State baseball team closed the series sweep of Colorado Christian winning both games in a Saturday doubleheader 7-2 and 6-0 at the Diamond Sports Complex.

Ismael Orozco paced the offense going 4-for-6 at the plate with four runs scored and three RBI hitting his first home run as a Hillcat in game one.

GAME ONE
RSU used a four-run second inning to cruise to a 7-2 victory in the opening game of the doubleheader with the Cougars.

The Hillcats burst through scoring four runs on four hits in the second started by a lead-off walk to Orozco. After Garrett Hall pulled a double down the line in left, Samuel Davison delivered a two-run single. Aggressive base running by RSU, moving from first to third on a sacrifice bunt, led to a sacrifice fly from Danny Donoghue. Cesar Rodriguez capped the inning hitting an RBI single for a 4-0 advantage.

Josh Eclavea retired the first eight batters of the game before running into trouble in the third loading the bases, but was able to force a groundout ending the threat without conceding a run. He surrendered one run on three hits in the fourth leaving two more runners on base.

Orozco had already added to the RSU lead scoring in the third on a sacrifice fly from Zack Ashford and was at it again in the fifth starting the inning with his first home run of the season. After CCU tallied one run in the sixth, the Cats closed the scoring with a bases-loaded walk to Orozco before securing the 7-2 win.

Eclavea allowed two runs on five hits, while pitching six innings, for his third win in as many starts this season. Landon Nealon pitched a perfect seventh inning for RSU in relief.

GAME TWO
The Hillcats' pitching staff limited the Cougars to just three hits in a dominant win finishing the weekend sweep, 6-0.

Michael Fusselman returned to form tossing five innings of two-hit baseball before turning the game over to the bullpen duo of Justin Magstadt and Rusty Huber for the final two innings to maintain the shutout.

RSU scored in each of the first four innings to take control of game two. Hall ripped a two-out, two-run single into left in the first capitalizing on two walks and the Hillcats added runs on a second-inning Caleb Kohlmeyer groundout and a CCU error in the third, building a 4-0 lead.

The margin stretched to 6-0 in the fourth as Jordan Garr scored on a wild pitch and Orozco added to his incredible day with an RBI single as RSU finished the sweep.

Seven different Hillcats recorded at least one of the team's 10 hits in game two.

RSU (11-2 overall) continues its home stand Feb. 23 playing host to Northeastern State at the Diamond Sports Complex. The Hillcats get their chance for redemption with the RiverHawks starting at 1 p.m. with live audio, video, and stats on the Hillcat Network at www.rsuhillcats.com/live.
