CLAREMORE, Okla. – The Rogers State softball team ended its 2016 home schedule with two tough losses to St. Edward's on Saturday at the Diamond Sports Complex. The Hilltoppers swept the doubleheader by the scores of 7-2 and 13-0. Before the game, seven Hillcat seniors were recognized as they were playing in their final home contests.
GAME ONE
An early 3-0 lead was too much for the Hillcats to overcome as the Hilltoppers were victorious, 7-2, in the first game of the twin bill.
SEU plated the game's first run with a double to left field. Two consecutive RBI singles upped the score to 3-0.
RSU scored both of its runs in the third inning. Senior
Ashleigh Stidman doubled to centerfield to score pinch runner
Randye Sharp for a 3-1 score.
Morgen Blanchard pulled the Hillcats to within one at 3-2 with a single to the gap in right to plate Stidman.
The Hilltoppers added two runs with a home run to left by Morgan Dufour. SEU got runs in each of the fifth and sixth innings for the 7-2 score.
Ashley Williams went 2-for-2 at the plate after coming in as a pinch hitter. The top five of the order all had one hit with Blanchard and Stidman each with one RBI.
GAME TWO
SEU starter Lauren Slatten held the Hillcats to four hits in game two as the Toppers won 13-0. Two of the four hits came in the first inning. SEU hit three home runs in game two.
With a 3-0 advantage, SEU poured it on with eight runs in the fourth inning, highlighted by a three-run home run by Kayla Appleby. She added a two-run home run in the fifth inning as part of the 13-0.
Blanchard finished 2-for-3 at the plate in game two.
Katelyn Gamble and
Arika Araujo each had hits as well.
Appleby went 3-for-3 with the two home runs and five RBI. Eight Hilltoppers had hits.
Slatten totaled five strikeouts and three walks while allowing the four hits in five innings.
Senior
Rachel Jones started both games for RSU going 10.1 of the 12 innings on the day in her final appearance at the Diamond Sports Complex.
The Hillcats (17-33, 6-18 Heartland) end the regular season with three road nonconference contests. The road trip starts with Oklahoma Baptist on Tuesday (April 26) at 4 p.m. in Shawnee, Oklahoma. RSU then goes to Oklahoma Wesleyan on Thursday for a doubleheader at 3 p.m. in Bartlesville, Oklahoma.
