Final Results
TAHLEQUAH, Okla. – The Rogers State women's golf team closed out the 18th Annual NSU Women's Golf Classic in the same spot they began the day in fifth place behind a 306 Tuesday at Cherokee Springs Country Club.
The Hillcats shaved eight strokes off their opening round score to post the third-best team round of the day, but could not catch anyone higher in the standings in an 18-team field stacked with regional opponents. RSU ended the event with a two-day score of 620, three shots back of fourth place.
Mica Eastin used an even-par back nine to make a jump into the top 10 as an individual finishing in a tie for ninth. The senior fired a round of 2-over-par 74 to lead the team at the tournament turning in a pair of birdies on the day. It marked the 11th top-10 finish for the Carrollton, Texas native in her career with the Hillcats.
After going out in 1-over-par 37,
Stirling Phillips carded her second birdie of the day on the par-3 13th to post a 78 in the final round to tie for 14th place. She ended the opening tournament play even on the par-3's to lead the field of 98 golfers.
In the closing round of her first collegiate tournament,
Mariana Flores cruised through the opening nine holes shooting all pars on the front nine and was even par through 12 holes. The freshman hit a rough patch and capped her day with a 77 to place in the top 20 tied for 18th overall. She closed the event with 24 pars to rank third of all competitors.
Elizabeth McCloskey showed the biggest improvement for the navy and red between rounds one and two by dropping seven strokes off her score. The redshirt sophomore got off to a quick start firing birdies on the second and third holes before netting her third birdie of the day on No. 16 to finish with a 77. Her five birdies for the tournament ranked fifth in the field.
Kina Boone closed the day for the Hillcats putting together a score of 82 with 11 pars during her final round.
Southwestern Oklahoma State picked up the team title overcoming a 12-shot deficit after round one for a one-shot win over host Northeastern State.
The Hillcats return to the course Oct. 3-4 in Amarillo, Texas at the Women's West Texas A&M Invitational played at Tascosa Country Club.
