COUNTRY CLUB, Mo. – The Rogers State Men's Golf Team finished in a tie for seventh overall on Tuesday at the Holiday Inn Express Classic hosted by Missouri Western State at the St. Joseph Country Club.
The Hillcats started the day in eighth and moved up one spot in the 20-team field after carding a 299 for the second straight round. The Hillcats finished at +35 for the tournament.
Nico Horder and
Edwin Blomander led the way for Rogers State on the final day, as both Hillcats carded rounds of 73 on the par-71 course. Horder started with a pair of bogeys, but answered back with a run of five pars, four birdies and an eagle over the next 10 holes to go as low as -4 for the round, but the freshman had three bogeys and a triple bogey down the stretch to finish at +2 for the day.
Horder finished eighth overall in the event, with a three-round score of 214 to finish +1.
Blomander had 12 pars on the day to go along with two birdies and four bogeys. Blomander moved up three spots from the start of the day and finished in a tie for 15
th with a +5 score of 218.
Aidan Gavey finished third on the day for the Hillcats and also took third amongst the team for the tournament. Gavey carded a 76 in the final round. After dropping four shots early, Gavey recorded three-straight pars, followed by three-straight birdies. However, he would drop four more shots over the final eight holes. Gavey finished in a tie for 50
th, climbing 11 spots on the day, in the 100-player field at +15.
Finishing one shot behind Gavey for the tournament was
Gonzalo Chaves, who shot a 78 in the final round. Chaves had four bogeys on the front and back nine and had a birdie on the 10
th as he dropped seven shots on the day. Chavez would climb one spot on the day and finished in a tie for 54
th at +16 over three rounds.
Logan Meehan was the final scorer for the Hillcats in the third round, besting Chaves by one stroke. Meehan started with a pair of pars and then strung together six pars through the middle of his round. After dropping four shots over five holes, Meehan finished strong with two pars and a birdie to close the round. Meehan climbed 11 spots on the day to finish in 73
rd.
The Hillcats will be back in action next week, wrapping up the fall semester at the Sierra Central Wildcat Classic hosted by Chico State in Chico, California.
