CLAREMORE, Okla. – The Rogers State Men's Golf team and head coach Steve Brown have announced the signing of Ty Nicar to the 2020-21 signee class.
 
Nicar will join the Hillcats from Kingwood, Texas and Kingwood High School, the hometown and school of current RSU Women's golfer Marybeth Bellnap. Nicar recently wrapped up his senior season with Kingwood, helping the golf program to four team victories and two runner-up finishes in his senior campaign.
 
"We're very happy that Ty made the choice to become a Hillcat," said Brown. "He is an enthusiastic and confident player who has competed against some of the best high school players in Texas."
 
During his senior season, Nicar averaged a scoring round of 75.5. As a senior, he recorded six top-5 finishes as an individual and also had a pair of runner-up finishes for medalist honors, including his second to last tournament of the Spring at the NISD Concan Classic.
 
In his final tournament before the season was canceled due to the COVID-19 pandemic, Nicar carded a season best round of 67 (-5), also a tournament best, to help him finish third overall.
 
He also helped Kingwood shoot a new program record for a single round this season. As a junior, Nicar helped the Mustangs win the Texas Class 6A Region III Championship by eight shots. Kingwood would go on to finish seventh at the State Tournament.
 
In the fall of 2019, Nicar earned top five finishes on two stops of the Southern Texas PGA Junior Tour. He also recorded a top 10 finish at the Bay Forest Junior Championship in October. In total, he has seven top-10 finishes on the Junior Tour over the last two years, including a pair of runner-up finishes.
 
"One thing we like to see in a recruit is the ability to go low, and Ty has shown this year," said Brown. "He also had two second-place finishes in the three tournaments his team was able to play in this spring.  I'm looking forward to the fall season and having Ty as a member of this team."
 
 
Nicar is one of six commits for the Hillcat golf team for the 2020-21 signee class.
