Hillcats Win 2022 MIAA Men’s Golf Championship

INDEPENDENCE, Mo. Rogers State men's golf are the 2022 MIAA Men's Golf Champions after wrapping up the final day at the MIAA Championship. This is RSU's first men's golf conference title since joining the league at the beginning of the 2019-20 season.

"Any win is a great feeling, but winning conference is even sweeter," said Head Coach Steve Brown "I am very proud of everyone's effort and ability to stay composed through some difficult conditions this week. The team is playing well, we just need to keep a good attitude going through the postseason."

After three rounds at the Par 72, 6,752-yard WinterStone Golf Course, the Hillcats claimed the team title after turning in a card of 875 (+11) for the tournament.

In addition to winning the team championship, RSU racked up the individual honors as well. Luke Palmowski was named MIAA Player of the Year as well as earning First Team All-MIAA honors after a fantastic regular season in which he won three tournaments and had four first place finishes. Daniel Robles was named MIAA Freshman of the Year as well as earning First Team All-MIAA honors. Aidan Gavey and Gonzalo Chaves also earned First Team All- MIAA honors.

In the final round of the tournament, Gavey lead the Hillcats with a second place finish after shooting 217 (+1). The senior collected eight birdies in the 54 holes.

Robles finished third with a card of 218 (+2). Palmowski finished fourth with a 219 (+3). Ty Nicar finished in a tie for 18th with a 227 (+11). Chaves rounded out the group in a tie for 20th after shooting 228 (+12).

The Hillcats will now prepare for the NCAA Division II Midwest/Central Region Championship beginning on Thursday, May 5 in Noblesville, Ind. The championship will be held at the Purgatory Golf Club.
