NOBLESVILLE, Ind. – Rogers State men's golf wrapped up play at the NCAA Division II Midwest/Central Regional with the final round on Saturday.
After 54 holes at the Par 72, 7,707-yard Purgatory Golf Club, the Hillcats finished in 12th place out of 20 teams after turning in a card of 906 (+18) for the tournament.
"Looking at the regional tournament on its own, obviously we are disappointed in our finish and that we are not advancing to the national championship," said Head Coach
Steve Brown. "For whatever reason it just wasn't there for us this week. That's golf, that's sports, and sometimes that is life. This week does not, however, negate any of the great accomplishments and moments this team enjoyed over the course of the year."
Aidan Gavey led the team in a three-way tie for 16th after shooting 221 (+5) in the tournament.
Luke Palmowski finished in a group of eight tied at 28th with a card of 224 (+8).
Ty Nicar finished in a three-way tie for 69th with a 232 (+16).
Daniel Robles finished in a tie for 84th with a 235 (+19).
Gonzalo Chaves rounded out the squad in a tie for 84th after shooting 236 (+20).
"Sports are so much more than what happens on the field," continued Brown. "Off the course this team became a true family, and I take comfort in knowing that the seniors who will be leaving us this year will remain great friends for the rest of their lives. It's been my pleasure working with Luke, Aidan and Gonzalo for the past five years, and I appreciate them sticking with me over that time. We will miss them, but we have a strong team returning, and some solid talent coming in. This week does sting, but it's still a good day to be a Hillcat."
With the 12th place finish, the Hillcats incredible season has come to an end as only the top six teams advanced to the National Championship.
