KANSAS CITY, Mo. – Rogers State softball's Sara Llamas-Howell and Bridgett Morales swept the MIAA Player of the Week awards claiming Pitcher of the Week and Hitter of the Week, the league announced on Monday. This is Llamas-Howell's fourth such honor and Morales' second of the season.
 
Llamas-Howell won pitcher of the week honors after going 3-0 in the circle last week, posting a 0.33 ERA over 21 innings with only one earned run and eight strikeouts. The junior from Pawnee, Okla. threw two shutouts, including the 9-0 run rule win at Missouri S&T and went the distance in the 6-0 win over Washburn to bookend the week.
 
Morales won hitter of the week after she led the No. 8 Hillcats to a 5-1 week with wins over Missouri S&T on the road, and Emporia and Washburn at home. The Moore, Okla. native hit .429 (9-for-21) at the plate and drove in a total of nine runs. The sophomore also had three runs scored and two home runs. In the 9-0 run rule win against the Miners, Morales went 3-for-4 with three RBI, including a two-run homer. She also drove in three more runs in the second game against S&T. Morales also walked off the Hornets in the 5-3 win with a two-run shot in the eighth inning.
 
RSU will begin the final road trip of the regular season on Friday, April 28 with a stop in Hays, Kan. for a meeting with Fort Hays State. First pitch is set for 1 p.m.
