HOT SPRINGS, Ark. – Rogers State men's golf closed out competition at the Battle of the Belt on Tuesday.
Â
After three rounds at the par 72 Hot Springs Country Club, senior
Elliot-Han Monteremal won the individual title after shooting 209 (-7). After firing a 70 (-2) in the final round, Monteremal had to go to two playoff holes to secure his first win of the season.
Â
"I'm really happy for Elliot," said Head Coach
Steve Brown. "I don't think anyone understands how hard he's worked and all the things he has done right to get to where he is today. It's very hard to win a golf tournament, and it wasn't easy for him today. He really had to grind out his last two holes and he did it."
Â
As a team, the Hillcats finished in sixth place with a card of 876 (+ 12).
Â
"As for the team, we are making progress, so I'm very encouraged by that," said Brown. "Our first round was very good,
Tyler Collier played exceptionally well, and we were in the hunt. I was also pleased to see the way
Maddox Bullen played as an individual, and can't wait to see what he does in the lineup next week. However, we are still learning how to be consistent. We can't have our last round, be our worst round. I'm looking forward to seeing more progress next week at Missouri Western."
Â
Tyler Collier finished in a group of six tied at 20th with a card of 218 (+2).
Thomas Barnes Grimes finished in a three-way tie for 34th with a 223 (+7).
Miguel Mora finished in a tie for 46th with a 227 (+11).
Callum Brown rounded out the group in a three-way tie for 67th with a 239 (+23).
Â
Playing as an individual,
Maddox Bullen finished in a tie for 18th after shooting 217 (+1) over the three rounds.
Jack Roche and
Pedro Benjumea finished in a tie for 62nd with cards of 233 (+17).
Kaden Armstrong finished in 74th with a 245 (+29).
Â
The Hillcats will be back in action on Monday, Oct. 7 as they travel to St. Joseph, Mo. to compete in the NCAA Regional Preview at the St. Joseph Country Club, hosted by Missouri Western.
