Box Score JOPLIN, Mo. - Rogers State baseball (29-20) saw their season come to an end as they fell 10-4 to Central Oklahoma in the quarterfinals of the MIAA Tournament on Thursday.
After going 2-for-5 with an RBI, Andrew Ramirez now holds the Division II-era single season RBI crown with 60 RBI, passing Grant Farris' 2019 mark of 59.
The game looked to be a pitchers' duel early as both starters combined to scatter four hits over the first two innings, with four runners left stranded.
It was the Hillcats who struck first in the third inning as Carson Cheatwood earned a walk to lead off the frame. Tyler Nelson dropped a ball into right for a single and moved all the way to third on an error by the right fielder, with Cheatwood scoring from first. Andrew Ramirez drove in Nelson with a double down the right field line. Weston Peninger returned the favor with an RBI single to left, scoring Ramirez. Late in the inning, Andres Contreras plated Peninger with a fielder's choice to put RSU up 4-0.
The Bronchos got a run back in the home half of the third to cut the deficit to 4-1 as a run scored on an error by the second baseman. They then came back and tied it at 4-4 in the fourth with three runs off a two RBI single to center and an RBI single to right.
UCO took its first lead in the fifth inning as they tacked on three more runs to go up 7-4. An RBI triple, a sacrifice fly and an RBI single brought in the runs.
They added three final runs in the seventh to seal the 10-7 win with a bases-loaded walk, RBI single and sacrifice fly.
Dax Sharp (6-1) earned the win. Colton Anderson (8-5) took the loss.
The Hillcats close the season with their highest finish in the MIAA since joining the Association, ending in fifth place.
