TULSA, Okla. – Freshman
Kobsak Phisitbuntoon continued his strong play on the second and final day, finishing a team-high fifth as the Hillcats placed 13th at the NSU Men's Classic at Page Belcher Golf Course – Stone Creek.
"A much better performance by the team this week, especially from our freshman Odil Phisitbuntoon," commented head coach
Steve Brown following the tournament. "His game was so steady and smart this week. It was really a pleasure to watch such a young player play so well." Brown added, "As a team, I would say our confidence in our putting needs to improve, and a few of our decisions need to be a little bit better. All in all, we showed improvement, and we'll keep building on that."
As a team, the Hillcats showed significant improvement in the final round, finishing at -1 compared to +3 in round one and +4 in round two. They moved up one spot in the team standings, finishing with a total score of 858 (+6).
Central Oklahoma took the lead in the team race starting from the second round and didn't look back. The Bronchos finished with a team score of 828 (-24) to secure their second consecutive victory to begin the season. Central Missouri finished in second place with a score of 835 (-16), while Arkansas Tech, Harding and Pittsburg State finished in a three-way tie with a score of 845 (-7).
Phisitbuntoon continued his strong performance, carding a 68 (-3) in the final round, which included four birdies. The Chiang Rai, Thailand, native climbed five positions to finish tied for fifth with a total score of 205 (-8). His eight-under-par total over the 54-hole tournament ranks as the fifth best in school history.
Dylan Ros finished second on the team in a tie for 55th place, duplicating his first-round score of +1 to finish the tournament with a scorecard of 218 (+5). The junior transfer improved his score by more than nine strokes from The Mule last week in Missouri.
Tyler Collier and
Callum Brown finished tied for 70th with scores of 220 (+7). Collier moved up five spots in the final round, while Brown jumped 12 positions after shooting even par.
Aiden Deng (t-82
nd) rounded out the scorers with a three-round total of 222 (+9).
The Hillcats will return to action on Sept. 29-30 for the Newman Invite at Sand Creek Station in Newton, Kansas.
