Biography

About: Burney returns to RSU for her final season with the Hillcats in 2015-16 after appearing in nine tournaments a season ago. The Amarillo, Texas native recorded an 80.84 scoring average as a junior in 19 rounds posting her career-low round of 2-over-par 74 in the final round of the Susie Maxwell Berning Classic. She turned in her second-career, top-10 result placing fourth at the Mystic Creek Mulerider Fall Classic helping RSU to a team title. In 2013-14, Burney played in all 10 tournaments as a sophomore registering an 84.95 scoring average in 20 rounds. A two-time member of the Heartland Conference President's Honor Roll, her best round of the year came in the season-opening Susie Maxwell Berning Classic carding a 3-over-par 75. She recorded her best finish during her sophomore season placing 10th at the UAM Fall Classic, pushing RSU to its lone team title of the year. Burney competed in eight tournaments as a freshman in 2012-13 finishing with an average score of 86.94. She posted a low round of 81 in the second round of the OCU Stars Fall Classic. She joined the Hillcats after a successful prep career at Randall High School where she earned team MVP honors as a junior and senior. She tallied a school-record 74 and finished first individually at districts her senior year. Burney finished second at the Amarillo Relays her senior season. A member of National Honor Society, she graduated in the top 10 percent of her class. As a freshman under Head Coach Bart Cadenhead, she was named most improved. The daughter of Ben and Shannon Burney, she said she chose RSU because of "the great golf program and a great environment to excel as a student and an athlete."
