EDMOND, Okla. - Rogers State stood up to the test in a game that lived up to its billing at the Eagles' Nest Monday night in Edmond, Okla.

The third ranked Hillcats notched their first win of the season over a ranked opponent with an 85-68 victory over No. 11 Oklahoma Christian. RSU outscored the Eagles by 16 points in the second half by shooting a blistering 67 percent from the field. The Cats buried seven 3-pointers in the second stanza to pull away for their 12th straight victory.

The Eagles trapping zone defense gave RSU trouble in the first half. Senior Spencer Schrupp drilled a surprise 3 to open the scoring and Sylvester Spicer followed with a dunk in transition. However, OC stayed close by forcing a number of early turnovers and took the lead after a David Jackson steal and score at the six minute mark of the half.

Junior Eric Young regained the lead for the Hillcats with a pair of 3-point plays. His made free throw inside the final minute gave RSU a one point advantage at the break.

Deveric Taylor opened the second half with a trey from the wing and the Cats were off and running. The Eagles managed to tie the score three times before RSU broke loose for good. Matt Kellogg toed the 3-point arc and found nothing but net to give the Hillcats a 53-50 lead they would not relinquish. From there RSU went on a 14-2 run capped by another Taylor jumper from downtown with 3:52 remaining.

The plethora of 3-pointers turned a game that appeared to be headed to the wire into a runaway win. The Hillcats spent the final minutes at the free throw line as OC attempted to lengthen the game with fouls. RSU made its final six attempts from the charity stripe to reach the final margin, 85-68.

All-conference forward Jason Taylor carried the Eagles for much of the night. He finished with a game-high 24 points and made 15-of-18 free throws. Jeff Crocker scored 16 points while Kyle Tefft added 13.

The Hillcats had at least four players reach double figures in scoring for the sixth consecutive game. Rodgers led the way with 18 followed by Taylor's 15. Sylvester Spicer tallied 11 points and eight rebounds while Eric Young finished with 10 points, six rebounds, five assists and two steals.

Rogers State (12-0, 6-0) maintained sole possession of first place in the Sooner Athletic Conference standings with the victory and is the only undefeated team remaining in NAIA Division I. The Hillcats will look to stay unbeaten Wednesday night when the welcome St. Gregory's to the Claremore Expo. Tip-off is scheduled for 8 p.m. and the game will be carried live on RSU Public Television and RSU Radio 91.3 FM.
